SMITE review

Play as a god; Rule the battleground like a god!

SMITE is a thrilling yet newbie-friendly third-person MOBA game that has a whole host of gods from myths and legends for you to choose from! Besides playing the usual MOBA, you could also enjoy the variety of funny game modes that the game offers! if you would enjoy a semi-casual MOBA with an exciting twist to its gameplay, then SMITE is definitely the game you've been looking for!

Game rating: 9/10

Pros:

  • Gods (not the user-used 'Heroes') are based on mythology - who doesn't like mythology? Each class are uniquely different and very well-designed as well!
  • Excellent for beginners to MOBA
Auto-purchase items from the in-game store based on the list of recommended items once you have enough money and auto-level skills too.
  •  TERA-style combat system
No click to target and attack. Instead you actually have to aim your character at the enemy to let your arrows or spells fly true. For melee characters, you will need to face your opponents.
  • Has working line of sight - so if you stay behind creeps, your opponents cannot hit you (unless they use their certain skills, of course)
  • Highly polished 3D graphics and impressively detailed god models
  • Shared experience and gold – team fights than item farming
  • When enemy reach your nexus or when your team reached your enemy's nexus, the nexus will come alive and it’ll feel like a boss battle. Truly awesome!
  • Completely free to play – can use money earned in-game to buy cosmetics too
  • Satisfying rate of new character unlocks
  • Playing the same god repeatedly is advantageous
Not only because you can train up your skills, there’s also a god rank system that will allow you to unlock new flashy skins that you can show off to your friends and your opponents in  the game while showing how badass a player you are!
  • If you die, you can buy back like DotA 2 - meaning that you can respawn faster if you can spare the cash
  • Objective-based maps with bosses that will give you or your team bonuses
  • Plenty of game modes
Not only MOBA, the game also provides silly matches, like bearded-gods only matches or north vs south gods, and a seriously awesome gladiatorial ring.
  • Built in twitch streaming and other community videos

Cons:

  • No courier in this game - you'll need to be at shop to buy stuff

Meh:

  • Feels more like a TPS RPG than a MOBA (for instance, you'll be using WASD to move)
I love the innovation that SMITE did by combining RPG PvP with a MOBA - Absolutely excellent. Some people though, may not like this as much since it's 'harder to play' for some. Thor’s Ultimate, Anvil of Dawn, work especially well with the third-person camera because they launch you up into the sky. They’re thrilling to execute, and it’s neat to see the map from another perspective.
  • Monthly rotation of 10 gods - similarly to HotS and League of Legends. It's fair to free-to-play players, but not as great as, of course, having all of them unlocked like DotA 2.
  • Can get ultimate at level 4 instead of 6 like LoL/ Dota 2 - getting ultimate earlier means you'll be fighting the enemy earlier... is that a good thing or a bad thing?
  • Forces you to ‘train’ a bit (reach level 6) before heading into the all player matchmaking pool in normal matches
  • No voice chat – pre-set Voice Guided System (VGS) - like the pre-set chat in Hearthstone
It is said to reduce toxicity in the game, but the freedom of players to speak is kind of throttled and it can be troublesome for people who are not familiar with such system.
