When the rich waged wars, it's the poor who dies - Jean-Paul Sartre. This quote is particularly prominent in this excellent 2.5D side-scrolling survival game by Indie company, 11 Bit Studios - This War of Mine. An outstanding game in its own right, the game paints the picture of war from the perspective of the true victims of war - the refugees and the survivors. Are you ready to do whatever it takes to keep your band of survivors alive?
Pros:
- In-depth character background and details
- Challengingly fun and realistic gameplay
Once you've cleaned out a house of resources, the house will not 'respawn' any of the resources. You will need to salvage much harder and well-fortified houses instead.
|
- Conveys a powerful message by showing war from the perspective of the refugees instead of the super soldiers - can be tear-jerking for the emotional peeps
- Very beautiful and detailed graphics
- High replayability
Cons:
- Commodities that are said to be valuable in the game is not valued as such by the NPC trader - For example, coffee and cigarettes.
Even when the market has high demand (and low supply) for, for instance, coffee (as announced in the game), the trader will value the coffee that you want to trade at the same price before the supposed increased in demand. This makes hoarding the so-called valuable stuff for these special events rather useless.
|
Meh:
- Major events in the game stays the same
If you've played the game once before, you can estimate when, for example, the snow will hit your area. Thus, you get prepared for it much earlier than your previous play-through. Some people may think this affects the game replayability, but from what I've experienced, it does not. In fact, it helps you tremendously in the game and may enable you to survive longer.

Tips and other comments:
- Do not hoard coffee, cigarettes or any other so-called valuable commodities for trading. Instead, stack up on bandages, antibiotics (and try not to use them as much) and also diodes (diodes is perfect for trading for other smaller items since you hardly use them in the beginning of the game)
